Hey, sad to see you leave, but it's honestly quite understandable. Writing eats through a lot of free time... Good luck, Turtles!

Also, could I ask what exactly it is about where Substack's going that you don't like?

Thanks :)

What I don't like is that they are pushing everything through the app which eats 30% (so now 10% + 30% + 2% for stripe). So if I ever have an investing related site again I will just build my own that is custom built where I only pay the 2% + some hosting fees and do the occasional free posts on substack to get new followers. You get really very little value in return even for the 10% on substack with how little customization options there are.

Also I cannot find my Notes follower count anywhere anymore. Overall UI seems a bit clunky.

Well I clicked "Change" on my annual subscription and selected monthly subscription (to be fair, this is not quite recommended above, but it seemed sensible to me).

The result is that I now have a monthly subscription (receipt for monthly payment taken issued today 12 January, next renewal stated as 12 February) , overlapping with my annual subscription continuing until 28 April :(

So I'm paying double for a couple of months. Don't do this!

Not enough money to be worth pursuing, but it's basically a scam by Substack. I can see no circumstances in which someone opting to "change" their annual subscription to monthly would want the two subscriptions to overlap.

Substack: just another enshittified company.

oh sorry to hear that :( . I will edit it in article, didn't realize that was even possible lol.

To be super clear: all my ire is directed at Substack, not the owner of this blog. I'm grateful for past good ideas from the blog, and sorry it's shutting down.

Just unsub the monthly after the next payment and I will gift 2 months so it adds up.

Thanks. I seem to have contrived to fail to make the “next payment” (ie 12 Feb) anyway:

“The payment on your Visa card ending in XXXX did not go through. Your card was declined.”

Not sure what this about - I don’t think the card is out of date (but not at home to check). I’m going to kind of leave it be for now.

Joining for your 6 month blaze of glory. Your AI takes always give me more useful things to think about than the usual polarized takes.
